Sally Hudson is a teacher, economist, and community organizer running for the 57th District in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. As an Assistant Professor at UVA, Sally teaches statistics and studies some of the most pressing economic challenges of our day, from workforce development to student debt. She is also a dedicated election reform advocate and founder of FairVote Virginia, a cross-partisan coalition working to revive democracy via ranked choice voting. Sally is an active volunteer with OneVirginia2021, a champion for campaign finance reform, and leader in Women of the Fifth, a Charlottesville-based progressive grassroots group.

On The Issues

HEALTH CARE

Charlottesville and Albemarle are facing the fastest rising health insurance premiums in the country, and we can’t wait for a federal solution to our local problem. State leaders need to step up and expand public health insurance options so that every Virginian has access to quality, affordable healthcare.

ENERGY

Our climate crisis is already here. Charlottesville is a hub for innovative energy firms, and we should be leading the way to a clean energy future. It’s time to retire outdated fossil fuel infrastructure and say no to fracked gas pipelines.

DEMOCRACY

Virginia’s lax election laws let corporations run the show in Richmond. We need to empower voters over donors so that every Virginian’s voice can be heard. There are easy steps, like automatic registration and early voting, but we have to think bigger. Reforms like ranked choice voting and independent redistricting will help revive a real, representative democracy.
